David Ross - Chief Executive Officer
David Ross was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Ardonagh Group in June 2017. This represented the culmination of a two-year process by shareholders and management to create the market leading independent distribution Group in the UK.
David became the CEO of Towergate, the original investment by HPS in the UK insurance intermediary industry, in November 2015 and led the business through a period of turnaround and transformation which included stabilising revenue, people, financials, infrastructure and governance. The demonstrable progress made with the Towergate transformation during 2016 and 2017 enabled the creation of the Ardonagh Group in June 2017. David advised MDP and HPS on the acquisition of the other assets required to fulfil the vision during 2015 and 2016.
An Insead Alumnus, David’s career has spanned 27 years on the front line of the insurance industry. This included a 25-year career at Arthur J Gallagher, most recently as the CEO of the International Division, during which time the company underwent a defining period of growth and expansion.
Janice Deakin - Deputy Chief Executive Officer
Janice had a 13-year career at AVIVA, leading the broker business as Intermediary and Partnerships Director from December 2009 until 2013. Prior to that, Janice was AVIVA’s Corporate Sales Director. Janice has also served as the CEO of UK Retail for Arthur J Gallagher, leading a combined business of over 2,000 people, placing more than £1 billion of gross written premiums. Janice joined Towergate in August 2015 as CEO of the insurance broking business and was fundamental in the stabilisation and turnaround of the insurance broking and advisory businesses. Her role expanded to lead Ardonagh’s Distribution segment before broadening further following her appointment as Deputy CEO in December 2017.
Mark Mugge - Strategic Adviser
Mark held various senior finance and audit positions over the course of his career at AmerUs Group Co, Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company and GuideOne insurance. He went on to join Arthur J Gallagher in 2006 as Group Controller until 2010 when he was appointed as the CFO of the international division. Mark earned his CPA at KPMG, LLP and served in the United States Marine Corps. Mark joined Towergate in Q3 2015 as CFO and has been responsible for the stabilisation and overhaul of the finance structure including the finance transformation programme.
Antony Erotocritou - Group Finance Director
Antony has held numerous senior finance and commercial executive positions across a number of key industries, including FTSE 100 Telecoms giants BT and France Telecom and Private equity industry Oakley Capital, before joining RSA Insurance Group as CFO for RSAs Personal Lines business. Antony spent 8 years at RSA before joining Towergate in January 2016 as Underwriting Finance Director. Antony moved into the role of Deputy Chief Financial Officer for Towergate in February 2017, where he has played a pivotal role in driving the transformation of the finance operating model. Antony was appointed as Group Finance Director for the Ardonagh Group in March 2018.
Adrian Brown - Chief Operating Officer
Adrian is a qualified management accountant with extensive industry expertise, having spent 25 years at RSA. Adrian was the CEO of the UK and Western Europe for six years and a main Board Director for three of those. Previous to this, Adrian was UK COO and established and led the successful direct business MORE TH>N. More recently Adrian was Executive Chairman of underwriting and distribution at Arthur J Gallagher. Adrian was COO of Towergate from Q3 2015 where he led the stabilisation and transformation of IT in partnership with Accenture, implementation of a property strategy as well as the overall change and transformation programme. Adrian now oversees these functions across the Ardonagh Group.
Geoff Gouriet - General Counsel
Geoff joined Towergate in 2016 from City law firm Stephenson Harwood LLP where he was a Partner in the corporate team, working on the formation of The Ardonagh Group throughout 2017 and now overseeing its legal function. Geoff was the former Head of Corporate at Lawrence Graham LLP, a role he continued to hold in the combined Wragge Lawrence Graham & Co LLP following a merger in May 2014. In addition to his management roles, Geoff has extensive experience in the insurance sector and has led on a wide variety of high profile corporate transactions.
Sarah Dalgarno - Strategic Risk Adviser
Sarah has more than 27 years’ industry experience and currently serves as The Ardonagh Group’s Strategic Risk Adviser. She joined Towergate in 2015 from Arthur J Gallagher International, where she spent nine years, latterly as CRO, responsible for all regulatory, compliance risk management and governance matters of the UK regulated entities and international operations. Prior to Arthur J Gallagher, Sarah worked at the FSA for six years.
Paul Dilley - MGA Leader
Paul became CEO of Towergate Underwriting in March 2017 and since then has led this business through its rebrand to Geo Underwriting. Paul joined from Arch insurance where he was the Deputy Chief Underwriting Officer running the property and global energy books which encompassed managing underwriting teams across multiple countries. Prior to his time at Arch, Paul was a member of the Executive team at Canopius – UK Specialty in the role of Chief Underwriting Officer, managing premiums in excess of £230 million and a large team operating in London and other regions.
Gordon Newman - Wholesale Leader
Gordon has held numerous executive roles in the insurance industry including Managing Director of Seascope Insurance Holdings and Executive Director of Willis Faber and Bland Welch. Gordon was most recently CEO of Cooper Gay’s London operation, CGNMB LLP, having taken on the role in November 2013. This followed the sale of Newman Martin Buchan to Cooper Gay, recently rebranded Ed, of which Gordon was the founding Executive Chairman. In July 2017, Gordon was appointed Executive Chairman of Lloyd’s insurance broker Bishopsgate and following the creation of The Ardonagh Group became leader of its Wholesale segment, encompassing Bishopsgate and Price Forbes.
Derek Coles - CEO Direct Group
Derek has spent his career in Financial Services, starting at Barclays where he worked for 23 years in various roles gaining extensive experience in general insurance, life and retail markets. Derek was appointed Managing Director at international loss adjusters GAB Robins in 2003 before joining Direct Group in 2006. At Direct Group Derek led a MBO backed by Lloyds Development Capital in 2007, setting the strategy to develop it into a full insurance services business. Subsequently Direct Group was acquired by Ryan Specialty Group in 2012 and then Ardonagh in 2017. Throughout this time Derek continued in his role as CEO.
Ian Donaldson - CEO Autonet and Carole Nash
Ian co-founded Autonet in 1998 in Stoke-On-Trent, and successfully led the business to achieve turnover of one million pounds after just two years. Since then he has grown Autonet to become one of the UK’s largest insurance brokers handling over 1.2 million calls a year and relationships with over 30 leading insurance providers. In 2010, Autonet launched a van price comparison site for moneysupermarket.com and in 2016 he oversaw investment from Highbridge Principal Strategies and Madison Dearborn Partners before becoming part of The Ardonagh Group. In January 2018, Ian was appointed CEO of Carole Nash in addition to his leadership of Autonet.
Rob Worrell – CEO Insurance Broking
Rob was a founding partner of The Insurance Partnership in 1993, overseeing the business to achieve a turnover of over £60 million, becoming Managing Director in 2000, and negotiating its sale to Jelf in 2013. He joined the Jelf Group Executive Board became Managing Director of Trading following the sale before being appointed CEO of Jelf in 2015 following its acquisition by Marsh. In December 2017, Rob was appointed CEO of Insurance Broking for The Ardonagh Group. Outside insurance, Rob has a wide, varied and successful business portfolio across property, estate agency, financial services, education, manufacturing and logistics.
